A City-wide Church with a World-wide Ministry

Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church is a vibrant, historic faith community of nearly 2,000 members that welcomes all and provides ministries for all ages and all walks of life. We are the birthplace of Lutheranism in Nebraska. We are a “City-wide Church with a World-wide Ministry” and have been worshipping, growing, and serving in the heart of Downtown Omaha for over 150 years!

While Kountze is among the largest ELCA churches in Nebraska, it maintains a family-like atmosphere. Our members come from all over the city and surrounding communities. Whether you are a member of long-standing, looking for a new church home, or visiting family and friends, Kountze provides a welcoming community to everyone.

Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church is a congregation in the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).

The St. John's Bible Comes to Kountze
In late October, as we celebrate the Reformation, members of Kountze Memorial will have the chance to engage the St. John's Bible in our worship and adult education opportunities. The Reinert-Alumni Library of Creighton University has been the custodian of a high-quality replica (Heritage Edition) of the richly illustrated St. John's Bible. This edition of the Bible models the painstaking, hand-written and illustrated Bibles before the invention of the printing press. The Bible is named for St. John's Benedictine Abbey and University, where the project was commissioned in 1998 (and completed in 2011). Kountze Memorial is one of a few select local congregations invited to use the Bible in its worship and educational opportunities. Please read the next edition of the Good News for more details.
