GLOBAL MISSION

Through the leadership of our Global Mission Committee, Kountze Memorial continues to be a “City-wide Church, with a World-wide Ministry”. Our congregation annually supports several missionaries serving around the world, maintains a sister congregation partnership with the American Church in Berlin, contributes generously to Lutheran Disaster Response when the need arises, partners with Lutheran Family Services to assist refugee families in Omaha, and sponsors alternative gift-giving during Advent, raising to date over $125,000.

Missionary Support

Global mission support in the form of prayer, communication and financial gifts for our missionaries are continuing priorities. Kountze Memorial supports missionaries in various parts of the world and currently provides Global Mission support to the following missionaries: Rev. Chandran Paul Martin, India; Dr. Stephen & Jodi Swanson, Tanzania; Krystle Moraska & Ignacio Madrussan, Argentina; Meghan Brown Saavedra, Mexico; Our sister congregation, the American Church in Berlin.

Disaster Relief

Kountze members responded generously to the needs of the Haiti earthquake victims by contributing to a special Haiti relief fund. We also encouraged giving to similar funds for victims of the devastating floods, in Pakistan and other areas of need around the world.

Refugee assistance and the Benson area refugee task force

Members of Kountze Memorial are also active in BART (Benson Area Refugee Task Force), a non-profit that assists in welcoming refugees into our community. If you would like to learn more or are interested in helping in volunteering, please visit BART at: www.BensonRefugeeTF.com.

Alternative Gifts

2016 marks the 13th year members of the Global Mission committee sponsored alternative gift-giving during the Advent season. In 2015, $19,154 was raised for several important global mission causes. Over the past 12 years, the Alternative Gift program has raised more than $129,492 for needed mission projects and continues to be an important fundraising program for the committee.

The Kountze Memorial Global Mission Committee continues the long legacy of our church’s mission outreach work around the world. If you would like to participate in these meaningful efforts, please contact the church office at 402-341-7761 or info@kmlchurch.org.

Quilts for Lutheran World Relief

As a part of the Nebraska Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Ingathering held Nov 7-10, 2016, our sewing group completed 259 quilts that will be sent overseas to refugees in need. In 2015, over 300 quilts were completed, a record total. The quilts are beautifully displayed throughout the sanctuary, rotunda, and balconies every year on All Saints Sunday. We are proud of the dozens of dedicated volunteer sewers who meet each month on the second Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to quilt. If you would like to serve in this ministry, please contact the church office at 402-341-7761 or info@kmlchurch.org.
