Over the course of the past two
decades, the
Food Pantry at Kountze Memorial has evolved from a little closet of food
into a
well-built weekly operation, with over 70 volunteers serving an
estimated 1,
500 guests each month. At Kountze, guests are allowed to come once a
week,
making our Food Pantry unique within the city of Omaha. A simple picture identification or social security card
is
needed; no other questions are asked or restrictions placed. The
Pantry’s
mission is simple: feed the hungry. Due to the enormous generosity of
the
Kountze congregation the Food Pantry is able to continue fulfilling this
mission. Here, all are welcome.
Come and be filled.
Hours of Operation:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to noon
(The pantry is closed for holidays and school closings.)
How can you help?
* Donate Food and/or Supplies:
Check the Bulletin or Good News for needed items. Items can be dropped off at the doors on the west side of Fellowship Hall.
* Donate Money:
This allows the Pantry to buy needed items at a discount from the Omaha Food Bank. Donations can be mailed or dropped off to the Church Office.
* Volunteer:
Click HERE to fill out a volunteer interest form and return it to the Church Office. Call the office at (402) 341-7761 with any questions.
Some of the Pantry Volunteer Opportunities include:
Pantry Volunteer
Donate three hours of time on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Work starts at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall with preparations. We prepare sacks and get the pantry ready to open at 10 a.m. At 10 a.m., we open. The pantry team greets, registers and serves guests. Registered guests receive one sack per week. At noon the pantry closes.
Shopper Helper
Every
Thursday
volunteers visit the Omaha Food Bank to pick up the weekly food order.
This job
involves unloading boxes of food. This is physical work and an ideal
opportunity for young people or people who still feel young. This is
also a
chance to earn community service hours. In addition to unloading, we
could also
use another driver on Thursdays to drive the church van to and from the
Food
Bank.
Sacker or Sacking Family
We sack on Monday mornings from around 8:30 a.m. until we are finished. More members are discovering that sacking groceries can be a great thing to do.
If you would be interested in volunteering with the Kountze Pantry, please fill out the form above or contact Meggan Lloyd in the church office at (402) 341-7761.
