Congregational Lenten Retreat is March 20
The Kountze Memorial Women of the ELCA are sponsoring a Lenten Retreat for all men and women of the congregation on Saturday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Pastor Dean Bard will be the retreat leader on the topic of “What does the Lord require of you? Discipleship from Micah to Bonhoeffer.” The award-winning documentary entitled “Bonhoeffer,” produced by Martin Doblmeier, will be featured.
Micah 6:8 states, “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor and theologian. He was a participant in the German Resistance movement against Nazism and a founding member of the Confessing Church. His involvement in plans by the German Military Intelligence Office to assassinate Adolf Hitler resulted in his arrest in April 1943 and his subsequent execution by hanging in April 1945 at Flossenburg Concentration Camp, shortly before the war’s end.
Child care will be provided if requested in advance. Everyone in the congregation is invited. The cost is $5 and will include rolls and coffee at break time and a very good lunch. Please call the church office for reservations at (402) 341-7761 by Thursday, March 18.
