After a trial run with residents
of deFreese Manor and due to the hard work and dedication of the members of the
Medical Clinic Task Force, the Healing Gift Free Clinic, LLC, opened its doors
to the public on Feb. 25, 2010.
The
mission of the Healing Gift Free Clinic, LLC, states the clinic is an
all-volunteer, free health clinic serving those in need of medical care,
empowering them towards health of the body, mind and spirit.
Currently
the clinic is open on Thursday afternoons, from 4-6 p.m. The clinic operates on
a first-come, first-served basis. Basic services, including treatment for
diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia,
rheumatoid arthritis, stable coronary artery disease and osteoarthritis are
being provided. Also, therapy and evaluation is provided for upper respiratory
infections, urinary tract infections and related conditions, gastrointestinal
disorders, acute sprains, acute dental problems, ear disorders and small
lacerations.
Not
included in the scope of work are procedures such as annual physicals, acute or
chronic gynecologic exams, or other acute, emergency cardiac care beyond
stabilization and immediate transfer to a medical facility.
The
clinic is currently in the process of establishing a relationship with Walgreens
Pharmacy, in order to be able to fill prescriptions for those patients needing
one. Narcotic drugs will not, however, be prescribed or be kept on the
premises.
In
addition, the clinic hopes to act as a referral network, providing patients
with information about current organizations in Omaha offering services
beneficial to our neighbors in the community.

more information, questions, comments or to volunteer in the clinic, please
