ASSISTING AT WORSHIP
For 75 years, young people have served as acolytes in worship through the Order of Saint John, providing leadership for our worship experience. Acolytes carry the processional cross, torches, banners, and gospel book in the processions, light candles, and assist the pastors at Baptisms and Holy Communion.
Trained leaders assist the pastors in the distribution of the sacrament at the Lord’s Supper.
Members care for the vestments, vessels,, paraments, linens, and elements used in our worship services. They prepare for Holy Communion and Baptisms, clean the brass, silver, and gold altar ware, change the paraments to reflect the appropriate liturgical color and season, and launder altar linens and albs. To volunteer, contact Linda Johnson, Altar Guild Coordinator, at (402) 341-7761 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Greet and welcome members, newcomers, and visitors as they arrive for worship, provide them with bulletins, assist with seating if necessary, gather the gifts to bring forward at the offertory, guide worshippers to the Holy Communion and stand ready to assist in any way necessary. To volunteer, contact Ian Hartfield, Director of Congregational Life, at (402) 341-7761 or email@example.com.
Trained lectors read the Old Testament and New Testament lessons at the Eucharist, lead the responsive reading of the Psalm when it is not sung, and read select scripture lessons at special services.
