A City-wide Church with a World-wide Ministry

Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church is a vibrant, historic faith community of nearly 2,000 members that welcomes all and provides ministries for all ages and all walks of life. We are the birthplace of Lutheranism in Nebraska. We are a “City-wide Church with a World-wide Ministry” and have been worshipping, growing, and serving in the heart of Downtown Omaha for over 150 years!

While Kountze is among the largest ELCA churches in Nebraska, it maintains a family-like atmosphere. Our members come from all over the city and surrounding communities. Whether you are a member of long-standing, looking for a new church home, or visiting family and friends, Kountze provides a welcoming community to everyone.

Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church is a congregation in the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).

The Nebraska Marathon will run in front of Kountze Memorial this Sunday morning. The race starts at Turner Park at 7:30 a.m. and will run east on Farnam.

If access to the main church parking lots is limited, parking is also available across Douglas Street in front of deFreese Manor.

And, we remember: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfector of our faith... {Hebrews 12:1-2]
